Four Different Companies and Industries in Eight Year: The Story of Mahmoud Kamal

Today we introduce to you Mr. Mahmoud Mohamed Kamal Mohamed. He is a Egyptian businessman based in UAE. He is a person who has ventured in a variety of diverse fields like agriculture, electrical works, broadcasting and media and even e-commerce business. Let us take a peek into his exciting journey!

In the start of his journey by joining his family business in the agricultural industry. The firm was called Friends Agriculture which started its operations in 2012 and is still operational. It is an agricultural company mainly concentrated on agricultural irrigation systems and landscaping. They mainly got works from private villas. They even did football courts, parks and farms as well.

He completed his Bachelor's Degree in Electricity Engineering and then completed his Masters in Business Administration from University of Wolverhampton, UK. While working at Friends Agriculture itself, he undertook some small electrical works but he did not get the approval for this kind of freelance work. That's when he decided to start his new business. He started Power Zone Electricals in 2013 all by himself. He was motivated by his father who has always inspired him. He was Mr. Mahmoud's role model as well. Power Zone Electricals undertook supply and installation for all electrical works. He learned how to lead businesses and how businesses in the area worked from his father. He advertised his business in newspapers and magazines which helped them gain customers initially and later, he got new clients by referral from existing clients.

Later on, he was struck by a new business idea and he decided to start a new firm. He and his partner Mr Younes Najif founded an ecommerce company named ‘‘trenddr.com’.com’ for electronics, smart gadgets, phones, laptops, accessories and drones. By the end of 2018, they had received over 3700 orders. They got orders from a number of countries like Poland, Switzerland, Spain, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and so on. And they felt that it is the correct time to move to the next level. And in order to achieve this, they decided to re-engineer the website and convert it into an online marketplace like ‘Amazon.com’ and ‘noon.com’ providing retailers a platform where they can sell their products online and work on a bigger circle of community. By doing this, ‘trenddr.com’.com doesn't only sell their own products but also promotes other retailers to use it as a platform to sell their products as well. It is aimed to help the existing retailers to make use of this platform to give its customers comfort to purchase from their own homes.

‘trenddr.com’.com is a drop-shipping based e-commerce marketplace. Unlike any other online retail marketplace, they are a marketplace that plans to transform the MENA's largest wholesale market and enable traditional wholesalers with e-commerce.

Then again in 2019, he started another one firm called B-roll productions. It is a broadcasting and media production company based in UAE. B-roll productions handle creative content development, media production, ecommerce businesses, social media handling, photography, videography and so on. They also go live on radio,newspapers and on television. They have a very well-integrated network which is capable of increasing the clients publicity and goodwill.

Mr. Mahmoud says he was always self-motivated and very much excited every time he started a new business. He recalls that 2 major turning points in his entrepreneurial journey are as follows:

1. The first one is when he started ‘trenddr.com’ in 2016 along with his partner Mr. Younes Najif.
2. The next one, in 2019, when they decided to re-engineer ‘trenddr.com’ into an online marketplace. He has also identified this step as a major change and a challenge they faced as well.

He always had long term goals. For ‘trenddr.com’, he has always dreamt of having operations all around the world. And he was also able to achieve it.

He believes that Egypt is a place where there is a lot of potential for investment in the modern times. He says that the business now is growing over there. He also points out that many big UAE based companies like Emaar Properties, Aldar, Al-Futtaim are all now making investments in Egypt identifying the potential. He says that Egypt is a country which has a growing economy. Egypt has crossed over a population of 100 million recently which will provide human capital.

The advice that he would like to share with the youth is that never say no and it is never too late. And when you are starting something, do not look at the earnings or money in the beginning. That is, he says that in the initial years, it might be hard and the profit made might be small or even very low. But you have to gradually improve or go through the step by step procedure and reach the final goal.

He believes that the most important key to success is employee satisfaction. He believes that it is even more important than leadership, control or anything else. He says that an uncomfortable employee cannot grow your business. He says that only the happy employees can give their cent percentage and perform their best. And also, only satisfied employees care for your business.

He believes that success is not something that can be spoon fed. By listening to the stories of other successful people or reading others life stories, getting motivated by that and then later on practicing or repeating the same will not work out. You may get motivated and then you should get inspired by the stories or what others say. And then create your own success which is yours and only yours. Success is not something that you get so easily just by copying someone else's recipe. But instead, you have to create your own recipe. You should never copy someone else's ways or paths but you should get inspired and motivated by other successful people.

Mr. Mahmoud Kamal has also penned his experiences into a book titled "How To Do The Same Mistake Again". And even in his exciting, thrilling and busy life, he finds time for his two hobbies. He enjoys motorbiking and working out. He always loved riding motorbikes and going to his gym, building his body and maintaining physical health.
